Have you ever seen a new cria being born in the early summer morning? Have you ever sat down in the middle of the herd at sunset to let the alpacas explore your face with their noses? How about watching the animals "pronk" around the field at high speeds, kicking up their heels in sheer enjoyment?
If you happen to love animals, raising alpacas could be the business opportunity of a lifetime. We would not recommend this venture to those who are wanting to get rich quickly, but rather to those who love animals, networking, and meeting other like-minded people in the industry.
Alpacas are lovely, soft creatures who are at peace with their herdmates and a consistent environment. Although they are fun to hug, it takes much time, rapport-building, and patience to earn their trust. By nature they are "flight" animals and when captured or closed in they are generally uncomfortable. But what a joy it is to realize that you have finally gained their trust and they allow you into their "personal space," for a little hug or petting. You'll find huge rewards in taking the time to get to know these fascinating animals!
